Sunderland Volunteer Life Brigade Rescue Teams Recent Callouts
23 April 2010
Following the reports of a kayaker going missing at Seaham on 22 April 2010 Sunderland VLB Search and Rescue Team were called out on 23 April, along with Seaham Coastguard, to undertake a search of the area.
The search lasted from 07.00hrs until 13.00 when the team were stood down. The person was not found. Seven team members attended.

The Search and Rescue Team were undertaking an exercise at Whitburn Coastal Park when a person approached and asked for assistance as her dog had fallen over the cliff. SVLB along with Sunderland Coastguard worked to recover the animal but unfortunately it had died instantly. Nine team members attended.

Sunderland VLB and South Shields VLB were called out to assist the Police in searching for a missing vulnerable female at South Shields. The search lasted for 2 hours but the person was not located. Seven team members attended.
Recent Incidents for Coastwatch
24 April 2010
Sunderland Coastwatch observed that a yacht had collided with the Roker Pier. HM Coastguard informed; the yacht was towed back to shore by the Yacht Club safety boat.

Sunderland Coastwatch observed a dark unidentified object in the sea close to Sunderland harbour entrance. From its shape it was thought possible that it could be a body. [A kayaker had gone missing a little way down the coast just two days earlier]. The RNLI boat was launched to investigate and established that it was, in fact, a tyre. The tyre was recovered for safety reasons.
